White Swan Inn - Warenford

We visited this pub on Friday 11th March in the evening.  Maureen came with us and we had a meal.

The pub itself was quite nice with a pleasant atmosphere.  A warm fire gave it a cosy glow.

The food was served in a separate dining area that had been tastefully furnished and had a classy feel to it.  The food was very nice with good service.

Newcastle House - Rothbury

We visited this pub on Friday 12th February in the evening.

The pub was quite busy.  The layout of the pub is quite long and narrow with tables in mainly straight lines.  The pub had a strange atmosphere, not feeling particularly friendly but equally not hostile.

It might be described as a typical town style pub.

The words used to describe the pub are:

  • Strange atmosphere
  • Mis-matched decor

Railway Hotel - Rothbury

We visited this pub on Friday 12th February 2016.  We thought the pub had been converted to an Indian restaurant, but found that the restaurant was upstairs and the pub was still in full operation.

The pub was a bit of a warren and looked quite old fashioned. (to be fair we were more interested in the Indian restaurant and although getting drinks from the pub, we didn't take much notice of the pub  )

The Turks Head - Rothbury

We visited this pub on 12th February 2016.

The pub was old-fashioned but lively.  One patron was strumming away on a guitar although his singing talents were questionable.

There was a roaring fire in the lounge and another one in the dining room which was laid out in a very regimented fashion.

The words used to describe this pub are:

  • Old fashioned
  • Lively (although it was a Friday night)

The Forge Inn - Ulgham

This pub was visited on Friday 27th November 2015 in the early evening.  Margaret had heard some poor comments about the place, but in spite of these, the pub was quite pleasant.

The pub had a roaring fire and was very clean and tidy with an equally tidy dining room, although there was no evidence that food was regularly available.

The Percy Arms - Chatton

We visited here at lunchtime on Wednesday 19th August.

The building is pretty and in a nice location.  It is modern and nicely decorated and although no bar as such, a good selection of real ales were on sale.

It is more a hotel than pub and majors on meals.

John Bull Inn - Alnwick

This pub was visited in the evening on Friday 15th August 2015

It is a friendly "locals" pub with lots of real ales.

The decor is spartan but clean with no TV or music.  A variety of games were available (scrabble etc)

The roll of honour for a leek club showed that old traditions were still kept up.

"Spit & Sawdust" came to mind when we entered the pub.  It may be in the process of some renovation, but the outside was very tatty so this is unlikely.

Kath had a huge glass of mineral water, but there were no real ales on sale.
