For a few years now, we have talked about visiting some of the lesser known pubs in Northumberland - The Bridge of Aln being one such pub.
One evening sometime in the last few months we finally decided that we should compile a list and begin the project. The original intention was to go to those pubs in Northumberland that neither Glyn & Margaret nor Kath and I had previously visited.
Discussion followed about how and when to undertake the task and we finally decided to set a particular day each week to visit at least one of the pubs on the list.
One early lesson learnt was that as we were starting the exercise in November, many of the country pubs did not open during the day and some only opened at the weekend.
